Despite skyrocketing demand in recent years causing prices to violently fluctuate, it's a relatively simple process to ascertain the price of a Patek Phillipe Nautilus.
Where do you begin your journey of establishing a Nautilus price? It starts with you: first ask yourself which model you want. From there, find out how desirable that model is. Only then can you figure out its price.
It's well known that with Patek Phillipe, there is a large discrepancy between MSRP and the actual value of the watch. This is because of the mystique behind the brand: where most companies offer discounts off a brand-new watch, Patek Phillipe has such prestige and demand that it is nearly impossible to get one at MSRP. If you want to own one, you will most likely have to buy one preowned—and with a heavy markup. If you want a brand new one, expect to pay over double MSRP on most models.
There are currently 31 different models of the Nautilus that Patek Philippe offers. The most inexpensive being their steel versions.
For women, the Nautilus 7118/1A starts at an MSRP of $30,750 and comes in at only 35.2mm in diameter. Currently at the time of writing this article, a brand new in box watch will cost you about $75,000 while a used watch is going for about $65,000 - $70,000 depending on its condition.
For men, the Nautilus 5712/1A starts at an MSRP of $48,730 USD and a diameter of 40mm. Currently at the time of writing this article a brand new in box 5712/1A will cost you about $130,000 USD while a used version will cost you about the same. That’s right: you can’t even get a used version for much less than a new one.
The reason it is so hard to find a used Nautilus is simply supply and demand: almost any seller lucky enough to get a Nautilus at MSRP will want to capitalize on the massive demand, so they will list the watch almost immediately after purchasing it to net a hefty profit. Those who truly want the watch are then forced to pay sky-high prices.
You have to build a relationship with an authorized dealer for any chance of getting a Nautilus at MSRP.
